This page has the legal notices Danville has to post on its website. Please note that while these are required by law, we do actually mean it and we will follow these rules and procedures to the best of our abilities.
Danville Code of Ethics
The Town of Danville works hard to maintain high ethical standards. Unfortunately, while the ideal is to avoid even the appearance of impropriety, that can be nigh impossible in a small town where most officials wear many different hats and many residents are connected over several generations. While working towards the ideal, the real standard is to avoid real impropriety (and if that’s not happening, call us on it so we can fix it).

Danville’s Designated Complaint Recipient is Michelle Leclerc, the Town Clerk/Treasurer.
Open Meeting Law and Violations
Vermont has long proudly enforced and enhanced its Open Meeting Law (OML), 1 V.S.A. Chapter 5, whose purpose is to ensure transparent and accountable government. Danville supports the purpose unequivocally while sometimes falling short technically – if you have a local issue, please contact the public body (formally or informally) to help us get better. (We govern ourselves – we’ll probably ask you to join that body!)
- A Guide to Open Meetings (Vermont Secretary of State, January 2019)
- To report a local violation of OML:
- Provide the public body written notice that alleges a specific violation of 1 V.S.A. Chapter 1, Subchapter 2: Public Information, and requests a specific cure of such violation. (You may also contact the Attorney General’s Office directly, and the AGO will contact the public body.)
- Upon receipt of the written notice of alleged violation, the public body shall respond publicly to the alleged violation within 10 calendar days.
- 1 V.S.A. § 314. Penalty and enforcement
Whistleblower Protection
The Town of Danville encourages anyone (employees, appointees, volunteers, contractors, residents, … anyone!) to immediately report fraud, waste, abuse, and health/safety threats. We’re a small town with mostly volunteer staff; we may not see it if someone doesn’t report it.
- Danville will not retaliate against employees making good faith reports or assisting in whistleblower activities, interfere with protected activities, or require discussion of testimony.
