Danville and the Northeast Kingdom are currently in an Extreme Drought (D3). Recent rains are helping with streams and surface water, but the ground below the surface remains very dry. As of Thursday, November 6, 16 residents have reported problems – 14 without water and 2 with shortages, 9 springs and 7 dug or shallow wells. Unfortunately there is little the Town can do. The State has requested an agriculture disaster declaration (currently stuck with the federal government shutdown).

If you are having well/water issues…
- For information about wells and springs, check Drought and Your Well web page (Vermont Department of Health, VDH)
- Submit a report through the Drought Reporter Site
- For grey water, you may be able to get water from ponds.
- For drinking water:
- Bottled water is widely available in stores.
- You can contact Danville Fire District #1 to purchase bulk water locally. NOTE that DFD#1 is NOT part of the Town government; it is an independent utility and its water is not free – the DFD#1 users pay for it.
- You can contract with a Water Hauler (list from Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets – AAFM) to bring water in
- Long term, you may have to drill a new deep well – the Department of Environmental Conservation, DEC, maintains a List of Licensed Well Drillers
